Product Research

Know its limits and you'll be happy!!!

I bought this item and, ironically, had to wait an extra day to get it due to a snowstorm delaying Fedex. If it had arrived on time I am certain I would have loved it as it seems like it would move the fresh snow quite well. Getting it the next day, after the snow had a chance to freeze up with a hard top layer, left me wanting a more powerful unit with a metal blade.

Excellent product!!!

Have shoveled, bladed, & blown lots of snow in 55 yrs. Last snowblower was craftsman gas blower that is still working out at the farm. I am 64 & needed something lightweight & powerful that I can pick up & move as I need to! Very easy for one person to assemble. This is the tkt. I just came in from blowing one foot of snow on long driveway & sidewalk at home in town; plus the double driveway and corner lot sidewalk of my 91yr neighbor. One pass all the way to the concrete every time. It took me one hour start to finish. No clogs & the snow slid off the surfaces of the blower & no snow to clean out of the chute when done. I especially like the directional handle on the chute for snow. It allows a good dispersion of snow at a low angle so one is not hitting the neighbor's windows. The throw distance of the snow is equal to larger snowblowers I have used. I am a widow & have to pay for upkeep on sparkplug/gas driven items; and I am converting to electric yard items when possible. The price was reasonable & free shipping was an extra bonus.

Outstanding snow blower! Light enough to use as a shovel!!!

Just like another recent review I use this little guy here in Chicago land and have for over five years. For 98 percent of the time the Toro 38381 is all I need plus no need to worry about gas or starting. It is very powerful but it can only handle so much snow - probably 7 or 8 inches deep at the most. Well I looked at my front walk from the driveway to the house today and it had about 30 inches of snow. I was going to shovel it and then I bulb went off - what if I use my little Toro as a "shovel" lifting it with the handle behind the blower shute and the other hand on the handle where the power bar is located. Well it worked great scooping off 6-8 inches of snow and again until I hit the concrete and in no time I had the sidewalk cleared.

Now maybe not everyone can use it that way - my wife probably could not but it worked for me. I doubt Toro would every recommend such and if you try just use proper precautions. For smaller snowfalls it works great!! Doesn't hardly take up any room in the garage either.

Blizzard? What Blizzard?

I received this snow blower the Friday before the big blizzard of 2/2011. The blizzard ended today. This blower reduced what is usually a three hour job clearing a long 3-car wide driveway down to about 45 minutes. This last pile-up would have been impossible with a shovel. You will find this blower amazing if you are moving from a shovel. Moving from gas blower to this may not be as impressive. It's made of almost all plastic, which won't rust bend or dent, but some people like metal. It's slightly louder than a vacuum cleaner, but so quiet you won't need hearing protection.

The Best Kept Secret!!!

I first got the Toro snow shovel and was so impressed that I got this three years ago. I live in Boston and we have had storm after storm this season. This thing is so amazing. Don't let the small size and electric motor fool you. It will go through anything. If the snow is deeper than a foot, I just borrow under for the first pass and let the sides topple in. Heavy, wet snow is not a problem at all. In fact, the electric motor excels at it. Why? Because an electric motor has maximum torque at low rpms, just the opposite of a gas engine. When the thick heavy stuff slows the blades, it just keeps right on turning. It rarely clogs and is easy to clear if it does.
